The College of Fisheries, the first institution of its kind to be started in India during 1969, has come a long way. The graduates of the institution are serving in various government, non-government institutions and universities in and outside India and have excelled in several areas. The college has national and international collaboration in teaching and research. The college took the lead in development of an e-course for B.F.Sc. programme in the country. For the first time in the country, the College is introducing courses in Aquatic medicine this year with a strong background in pharmacology and toxicology in the B.F.Sc. Programme. The institution has already taken lead in training of fish health personnel of other fisheries colleges in the country in the area of aquatic medicine.
The college has contributed significantly in research with funding support and collaboration from national and international agencies which is reflected in peer reviewed research publication in national and international journals. Several technologies have been released to farmer/ industry in the area of diagnostics, vaccine and value addition to products. The institution has a notable extension service to farmer/ industries in the area of aquaculture, fish health, fish processing technology and aquatic environment.
The first College in the country is striving hard to maintain its premier status at national and international level. In the years to come college will have a greater role in the development of fisheries in the country.
